Default The Never Die Group...

I wonder how many people out there would be interested in forming a group that takes great pains never to allow any member to die.

Conceptually, if a single member of the group dies, everyone wipes their character and starts over again, to help enforce the rule.

This would be a PvE group (roleplay character), as there's no point in doing such a thing for PvP.

Who is up for the idea?

Its impossible.
You die by lag and minor bugs fast.

Your group has to grow from 2 to 8.

Though i would just love a group that forces self to just stay together for 18 hours over a Weekend.

I think it would be more fun to do the opposite - make a group of people wherein everyone in the party must die at least once per instance.

We already have that all over the game.

Not sure it's impossible...

Minor bugs and lag could be an issue, but they don't happen that regularly, in my experience. And I do not recall a situation in which *everyone* in the group is bugged/lagged at the same time. At least, not for me. Maybe I'm just lucky or something.

As for growing from 2-6/8, the group can work together in separate camps, at least until able to merge to the usual 6. As for the one area I'm aware of that allows for 8 people, either you do without (!), or the group could simply have more than the required number of members who might be available. Depending, of course, on whether there's enough people interested in the idea.

Theres like.. 10 missions with 8 people allowed or so. It's defanintly doable but not particularly effective. I mean 4 monks 4 warrior monks isn't going to be fun..

Perhaps a more feasible idea would be to restart each mission/go back to the outpost/town each time any member of the group died.

I hate dying in games - first instance of this was completing Zelda : A link to the past on the SNES - I love this game, and when I first completed it I noticed at the end, when the credits rolled it told you lots of stats, one being how many times you died and had to use a fairy to bring you back to life - I felt ashamed when I saw how many times I died - so I started again from scratch again and again until I managed to complete the game without dying. You get a much higher sense of accomplishment when you complete a game perfectly (e.g. unlocking everything, never dying etc)

I think this has scarred me tho, I remember playing Diablo2 and whenever I had the feeling I was about to die I hit the power button at the mains on my PC because I didn't want it to have any record of my failings Do you know how hard it is to play a PC game with one hand on the mouse and the other at the plug socket ?!?!

I would be up for this, but I'm not hard-core gamer enough, don't really have much time to play - good luck finding others tho

You could start it like a contest or something, try get 100 people to participate. If you do die any time you are out. Keeps filtering down until there is the last person. Would be very very hard to do.

Going through the game without dying is not as hard as it sounds. I've done it before, and if I can ever find it in me to deal with the mental stess of it once more, I may do it again. The most important thing required, simply, is patience. Just about any tight scrape can be avoided if you know how to work the AI, and take the time to follow through with it. It isn't until people get overconfident or bored that they start rushing, which leads to mistakes. The extra patrol group that you didn't see coming, the additional group of things hiding in the ground, etc. This is why this task is much easier to complete with henchmen - they never have any obligations beyond your own, and most people simply won't slow down in the presence of other players. Whether that is a real or imagined pressure (..i'd better keep up, I don't want to look like I don't know what i'm doing!) doesn't matter, because the end result of it is still the same.

Unfortunately, there's no real reward to this like there was in D2 Hardcore, except the satisfaction of saying you did it, a few more gray hairs, and most likely; an anxiety disorder that will linger with every subsequent character you play.

Well said Spooky... I'll pass on the anxiety disorders, thank you very much.

Now, if only Death Nova worked on party members....

Oh, I'm way ahead of you. Do you have any idea how exciting this game is when you've accrued a 60% death penalty?

I'm kinda the opposite of caring about dieing. I tend to look at a situation that anyone esle thinks would be completely impossible and think to myself, "Hmmm, I can do that". As a result, I do tend to die quite often, but the fun in doing something which shouldn't really be obtainable for any single player or small group is fun. Nothing like beating up on 4 or 5 level 24 mobs solo and comming out victorious.

This isn't a bad idea, except that it negates the value of teamwork. Why should that monk heal you, when he can just watch you die and scamper away instead?

I doubt it. I watched a level 20 warrior commit suicide by taking off his armor and engaging a level 22 hydra. He was dropped in one hit.

Ever since this thread I keep imagining some unholy crossbreed between Guild Wars and Ghosts & Goblins....

Picture it, a warrior gets smacked clean out of his platemail by a Jade Scarab...
